There are quite a few reasons why you need sewer line cleaning for your home. We use water in our homes each and every day. We bathe which creates dirty water, we flush our toilets, we wash our clothes, and we wash dishes. All of these create dirty water. All of this dirty water goes into our sewer line.

Sewer Line Cleaning

Because it isn’t only water going through these pipes, it’s important that your home has sewer line cleaning from time to time. There are items going through the plumbing system that can cause clogs to happen, and the last thing you want is for the sewer line to become clogged or even worse backed up or break.

There are things that can inadvertently cause sewer clogs and it’s important to be aware of what they are so they don’t accidently end up causing damage to your sewer system.

Some things just shouldn’t ever be flushed down the toilet such as:

  • Diapers
  • Tissues
  • Bath/Body Wipes
  • Sanitary Napkins
  • Cat Litter

Items that shouldn’t go down kitchen drains or garbage disposals:

  • Grease
  • Chicken bones

There could be intrusions from tree roots that interrupt the sewer line causing problems. The pipes leading to the sewer system can also deteriorate over time, or the problem could be that the initial plumbing could have been improperly installed.

When there is a sewer cleaning service, the plumber will first inspect the pipes with a video sewer camera to find and locate the source of the problem. They could also use hydro-jetting to clean and scour the inside of the pipes so everything can flow better. If there is no damage to the pipes, after a good cleaning, there should be no further issue. Otherwise, there could be pipe lining needed, or repiping needed, your plumber will go over the best course of action with you.
