One of the last things you want to go wrong with your house is to experience a leak in your plumbing system. Not only are leaks frustrating, but they can be damaging and hard to find. Hidden leaks are common, due to how plumbing appliances, and piping are set up. Here’s some places to check for hidden leaks.

Where to Check for Hidden Leaks

Slab Leaks

A leak under your foundation, or a slab leak is from the pipes under your concrete slab. This is a very big problem, and should be investigated ASAP. You could hear running water, be stepping on wet rugs, be smelling mold, or have wood flooring that is showing signs of warping.

Inside Walls

Most of your plumbing is hidden inside your walls. They are also under the floors, and in your ceilings. To locate these types of hidden leaks, look for water stains, or dripping.

Under Sinks

Hidden leaks under the sink are common. We don’t typically go under the sink often, and if we do, they are often cluttered with cleaning supplies. Between the cleaning supplies, and how the pipes are situated, a leak could be hard to find. Try to find a leak by listening for sounds of leaking water, also look for signs of any water damage.

HVAC

As HVAC units age, they can begin to leak. They have drainage lines in them to remove the condensation removed from the air. Look for signs of clogging or dripping from the unit. Also look for excessive water collecting near the pipe, this could be a sign of a leak.
