Some of the unanticipated expenses you have as a homeowner include plumbing expenses. They’re usually the last on the list. If you’re lucky, they don’t happen too often. And unfortunately, when you do call a plumber, it’s usually too late, and after damage has already been done. To help avoid this, here are six situations where you should call a plumber immediately.
- Smelling Gas
If you smell gas, it’s serious. Call the plumber as well as the gas company immediately and have the gas company shut of the gas. Close the switches and appliances in the home to help any potential damages due to the leak from pipes, as well as any potential sparks.
- Any Gurgling Sounds
If you hear gurgling sounds when you’re running the water, taking a shower, running the dishwasher or washing machine, there’s a problem. It’s an even worse problem if you hear it and the toilet isn’t being used. This means the water is looking for air and water could back up into your home.
- Hearing Water In Your Pipes
If you hear water in your pipes, or toilet, there could be a leaky pipe. Turn off the meter and see if it’s still spinning. If so, call a professional plumber.
- Poor Drainage
Any time there is poor drainage in a sink or toilet and a plunger, or natural solutions aren’t doing the job, call a plumber.
- Low Water Pressure
Typically low water pressure is caused by build-up of sediment and other debris. But if you’ve checked the aerator and that isn’t helping, call for professional help.
- Sewer Odor
If you’re all of a sudden smelling rotten eggs, there could be a broken sewer pipe, or a venting problem in your house. It isn’t only a horrible smell, but I could cause health problems.
