It’s fix a leak week. This means it’s your annual reminder to look for leaks in and around your home. A little prevention in the leak department can go a long way in both saving water, and saving money. This means in both your utility bill, and potential costly repairs down the line.

The average household can waste over 10,000 gallons of water each year! That’s a lot of water to be just wasting. Some homes even waste up to 90 gallons of water each day! What you need to do is first determine if you’re wasting water, then figure out where the leak is.

Look for Leaks

Some of the most common areas for home leaks are:

Toilet Leaks

Typically with a toilet leak you’ll hear the toilet running long after you’ve flushed it last. This is usually due to the flapper being worn out. A quick trip to a plumbing supply store can solve this problem. Or it can be solved by contacting a professional plumber.

Faucet Leaks

Faucets are the next biggest source of home leaks. These are often annoying because we hear the drip, drip, drip, of the faucet.  They drip enough water to take 180 showers! These are usually caused by old and worn out gaskets and washers. Again, a little shopping or a plumber can fix it.

Outdoor Leaks

These are a bit harder to find, but if you have an irrigation system, like many in the Bradenton area, you’ll want to have it inspected to be sure that it’s working properly. If you’re watering your lawn, you could be wasting 6300 gallons of water per month!
